ASIAN AMERICAN JOURNALIST OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Manny Legaspi of www.MyGringos.com, a multi-cultural Internet portal launched in March of this year. Manny is a reporter and photographer with a passion to educate and increase awareness of the culture of the different ethnicities he covers in Los Angeles and other parts of southern California. Manny receives $50 from AsianPRwire!
If you’d like to nominate an Asian & Pacific Islander journalist, please email the journalist’s name, title and name of media publication or broadcast, and in 100 words or less, why you think this person should be our next “API Journalist of the Month.” Send your nomination to news@asianprwire.com. You can also nominate yourself!

DO’s and DON’T’s when working with API media
When working with Asian and Pacific Islander media, avoid generalizing all races when referring to specific groups of Asians and Pacific Islanders. For example, do not say “Asians” when you are talking about Chinese. Say “Chinese” or “Filipino.” The U.S. Census Bureau has identified more than 26 distinct language groups among APIs, so keep in mind that the API media is as diverse as the population it serves.
Have a spokesperson or media contact from the same culture or who can speak the same language as the audience you are targeting. While most API reporters will understand if some companies do not have bilingual or bicultural spokespersons, they will definitely appreciate it if you have one available. But, also make sure this person is knowledgeable on the subject, and not just be able to speak the same language.
